The 2008 fourth Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival will take place again on the third weekend of August, the 15, 16 and 17th. Invited musicians this year are the Lafayette String Quartet along with Joan Blackman (violin), Yariv Aloni (viola), Tanya Prochazka (cello), Christie Reside (flute) and artistic director Alexander Tselyakov (piano). As always, Alexander has designed an interesting, romantic and challenging programme. You will hear an eclectic selection of works from Bach to Brahms, Schubert to Szymanowski and Schafer, Franck, Rachmaninov to name a few.

The Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival has become an important part of Canada's cultural calendar, delighting people of all ages with a powerful musical experience. This year we offer seven wonderful concerts: four chamber, two jazz and one free concert.

This year we welcome internationally renowned violinist, Oleh Krysa, winner of the major prizes in such international competitions as the Wieniawski, Tchaikovsky, Montreal, and the Paganini Competition; Cello Prodigy, Joshua Roman, who became the youngest principal player in Seattle Symphony history; violinist, Joyce Lai, concertmaster of the Canadian Sinfonietta in Toronto who also made a wonderful debut as a soloist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Szeged Symphony Orchestra in Budapest, Hungary; and clarinet player Jocelyn Colquhoun, winner of the CBC radio competition. We also welcome soprano, Naomi Forman, “an actor who could sing!” We are excited about the return of Jazz pianist, Michael Cain, from New York; saxophonist, Greg Gatien; cellist, Yuri Hooker; baritone, David Playfair; violinist, Daniel Scholz, and our host Patrick T. Carrabré.

Recorded by CBC for broadcast on CBC Radio Two’s In Performance, in this live recital Tselyakov introduces a collection of modern masterworks by Srul Irving Glick, Gary Kulesha, Patrick Carrabré, Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté, Francis Pott, Olivier Messiaen and Rodion K. Shchedrin.
